Cute & Easy Burlap Tags

Looking for a cute and easy burlap tag for my kitchen baskets…I happened upon this cute, super easy (even better than cute ) way to make burlap tags while working on another project in the studio. You will need: 1.small pieces of burlap ( a great way to use up those scraps left over from those other cute interest projects you are making! 2. Decopage Glue 3.Foam brush, scissors, hole punch, ribbon 4. a plastic surface (I had some acrylic sheets in the studio- but any flat plastic will work) 5. paint & brush for numbers  Lay the burlap onto of the plastic and coat thoroughly with Decopage glue and foam brush, making sure it is on front and back and goes all the way to the edges of your piece of burlap. Let dry thoroughly, then peel away from plastic… Determine the shape of your tags and use the scissors to cut out. (I used square…but let your mind run: circle, oval, etc.) DO not worry about fraying. The glue has sealed the woven surface, so you get a nice straight line without fraying…   Use a hole punch to create the hole at the top…insert ribbon of your choice… Paint on number, initial, label etc using acrylic craft paint….if you want a guide, print out a favorite font from your computer and use as such… Let dry…then tie on & enjoy! Watch for lots of awesome burlap parties coming up in the next few weeks in the studio…helps & hints will be in the next newsletter, so sign up & get connected with a spot to express...

Time To Wrap It UP!

So thinking I might get a head-start on wrapping gifts, I was searching the studio for new and different tag ideas…I wanted burlap, but with a twist…   I had several small 4×6 and 5×7 wooden frames, a lot of burlap, felt and a staple gun…voila…a gift tag is born! I cut the burlap about an inch larger that the frame, and back-wrapped it, fastening in place with the staplegun   (hot glue might do the trick, but you can stretch the burlap taut with the staple gun) Also…to finish off the back, you could either add ribbon to cover the staples, or a felt backing   If you were to stop here…grab some black paint, put on a fabulous initial, and add a black & white ribbon…but for this festive touch… I cut decorative felt to size, leaving a nice border to let the burlap show   I cut out my initial from felt, then using quick fabric glue, glued both the felt and initial to the frame…   Then reached for cute ribbon scraps… …glued and stapled some onto the frame to accent and tie it on… …and then, in just a quick staple here, glue there, you have a tag as cute as the present! Would be adorable in your Christmas holiday wreath too! To make this, and three other really different, but fabulous tags…stop by next Tuesday at the studio for the First Day of Christmas Creating…Here’s a quick look at the schedule… Twelve Days of Christmas Creating… …Make your own gifts …be fabulous!  $25 per class, reservations recommended, allow 2 hours creating fun!
