How a Painting Became a Coffee Table…

Participating in a fundraiser for Easter seals allowed me to do all sorts of wonderful up-cycling of different elements and paint them together…like this old painting & luggage stand… the luggage stand was in good condition, and I liked the finish, so I used it as the springboard for my design. It was brown with a black speckling… SO I based coated the painting and frame a neutral brown (stony fields from Porter) , allowing to dry, then speckled with black…using an old paintbrush, watered down black paint (1 part water to 1 part paint) and my finger to move the bristles… When dry, I taped of a one-inch ‘frame’ along the inside of the frame & painted chocolate brown, then allow to completely dry… Then I used a walnut oil-based wood stain and glazed the surface two times to achieve a little depth…coated with poly…and… Voila! Place on top of luggage stand for an instant coffee table for the low, low garage sale price of a couple bucks (and some elbow grease!) (Note the before tag…!)...
