Key to my Heart

Key to my Heart

Going through the house to fill the donation box, I kept picking up frames in one room or another. Some were old, some new, some broken, some brand new from the craft store. So there I was with a stack of frames & wood & inspiration struck… Holiday ornaments and tags were just waiting to be discovered in those wooden pieces…pumpkins needed to be adorned, ornaments wanted to be created and all in all- it was time to create! I also had a wonderful box just delivered from DecoArt full of amazing products from their new mixed-media line to try…I have several art projects in mind for these new products (especially their fabulous fluid acrylics!)…but today I was thinking more decoratively in my home for my mixed media creating! Since I felt a little sparkly, I went with ornaments first (I know- out of seasonal order, but who can resist the possibility of spreading a little golden cheer!) I grabbed the first frame, and old book, several awesome products from DecoArt’s new mixed media line, a stencil or two & raided the junk drawer for some old keys, buttons & an assortment of what-nots!     I began tearing pages and deco-paging the background. When dry, I did a soft wash using white antiquing cream to soften the look. Then I took one of my new favorite products,  DecoArt’s Metallic Lustre – Gold Rush, and rubbed it with a rag along the edges and details of the frame- Love! To create the center image for my frame, I used a key stencil, gesso & a palette knife. I taped off around the key I...

May I Address the Street

Time – something I don’t seem to have enough of (like every mom out there!) SO when it comes to fall decorating, I wanted a cute, but quick fall fix for my front steps. A quick trip to my hardware store for lightweight aluminum street numbers and picked up some pumpkins while at the grocery store (ahhh – I just pretended my kid-laden car was almost the same as a hayride out to the pumpkin patch) The lightweight metal is easy to bend, just use your hands to curve the numbers slightly to fit your pumpkins Use nails or tacks to pop numbers straight into the pumpkin (I used carpet tacks because I like the rustic look) Your five minute or less pumpkin decorating project is now complete – the hard part is deciding should I put them on the left side or the right side of the stairs – no matter their location, cute, cute, cute! Happy Fall...

fouronefive Designs

I recently discovered the fabulously talented Diana and her etsy shop, fouronefive Designs and wanted to share. We met via etsy  and I was blown away when she truly exemplified grace under pressure.  Her attitude and responses were faith in action…and I wanted to learn more about her and her story. A great phone conversation turned into over an hour of fun, laughter and shared faith. and so it began:   “I began my family at a very young 20 years of age as a single mom and found myself working so hard to create a family for myself and my daughter, but I knew something was missing. I was struggling to make it on my own, and God surely was laughing a little waiting for ME to get out of the way!” Two years into single parenthood, she rounded the corner one day to come face to face with her Highschool sweetheart, and her world changed right then and there. Three weeks later they were married But her love story doesn’t stop there…three became four as daughter number 2 was born, and Diana had the dream of becoming a stay at home mom, catching those memorable moments she missed in the early days with her oldest. With newly found time on her hands, picked up her grandmothers sewing machine and taught herself to sew, having lots of fun & being creative. With this, the first inkling of selling her wares came when an aunt encouraged her to open an etsy shop. Still trying to find her niche, she had an idea for a sign in the house, but couldn’t...

Mr. & Mrs. Jack O’ Light-ern

A client dropped off these two old light fixtures; they were screaming to become Jack-O-Lanterns. I dusted off them off and traced their faces onto vinyl. Next, I stuck on their eyes, nose, and mouth (or mustache). Voila! A cute Jack-O-Lantern couple! A quick and easy way to up-cyle old...
