Verse of the Week 1 : Psalm 119:1

“Give me your Words” I have my Grandmother’s Bible. The kind that is tattered, written throughout and falling apart. The very tangible sign of the inheritance of faith she left all her grandchildren. The wonderful surprise is getting to read her notes. Her jots and scribbles next to the verses, in-between lines. So when I went to Psalm 119:1, the very first verse of the 48 I am trying to memorize weekly, I loved finding this: “Give me your words” that is the very goal for the Year! To learn, to meditate, to memorize, to give and to receive His Words. Won’t you join with me on a journey that has been traveled over the past few years and still has far to go? Pledge to memorize the first 48 verses of Psalm 119, one a week, for the year of 2015. This longest chapter in the Scriptures deals with memorizing God’s Word, the how and why of this exercise. SO we are going to try, to try to take a little bite of yum and commit this to heart. Go ahead 2015, go ahead hard world and hard times in front of us, go ahead on this path: “Lord, give me your Words.”   ” Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD”  Psalm...

Make a V.O.W.

On 12/28/14 we are launching an exciting movement called “Make a V.O.W.” — a call across social media for scripture memory to go on throughout 2015. Scripture spoken aloud makes such an impact on those who hear. Just imagine pulling up Facebook, Instagram, emails, and hearing the voices of children reciting scripture. The soft tone of a mother speaking the gospel to her child. The booming voice of a grandfather sharing a long-time favorite from the Psalms. then challenging another to do the same. Why 12/28/14? We’re moved by Deuteronomy 12:28. “Be careful to obey all these things I command you, so that you and your children after you may prosper forever, because you will be doing what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.” HCSB So, how can you join the movement? Select a verse that moves you where you are in your life that day and make a pledge to memorize. Do so with your family, children, friends.  Record a video and challenge a friend(s) to do the same. Post the video and then commit to continuing to memorize scripture throughout 2015.  We can’t wait to see all the videos – to help see the movement in action, use the hashtag #makeavow and then follow on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more. Let’s flood social media with scripture.  Be a part of the V.O.W.   For inspiration head to...

Thanksgiving Pumpkins into Carriages

I am so thankful for traveling this year’s twisting and turning journey. From tightly closed doors to wide open opportunities, it has really been a gift of a year, tied up with ribbon on top. Each year begins with a blank slate. A custom canvas ready to be filled. It may have holes, or be a little crooked, but it is yours to decorate nonetheless. To look at that piece a little differently sometimes requires vision, sometimes perspective, but always faith and creativity. Perhaps, it needs to be flipped over, turned upside down, or just hung a little differently. God has provided everything we need to decorate that year, we just have to look for it.  The very essence of faith is that all will be provided, at the right time and place. It has been, for all this year, but sometimes it is hard to see. We concentrate on the pumpkin, not the carriage it could become. Even as life is unraveling, perhaps it is just preparation for it to be unrolled, pressed free of worry wrinkles, revealed, then tied into a beautiful bow. It has been a beautiful year of unraveling, of losing control in only the most wonderful ways. Faith. Fullness. Chaos. Grace. Growth. Fun. and for that perspective, I give thanks to my great God today. May your Thanksgiving be overflowing in grace and...

May I Address the Street

Time – something I don’t seem to have enough of (like every mom out there!) SO when it comes to fall decorating, I wanted a cute, but quick fall fix for my front steps. A quick trip to my hardware store for lightweight aluminum street numbers and picked up some pumpkins while at the grocery store (ahhh – I just pretended my kid-laden car was almost the same as a hayride out to the pumpkin patch) The lightweight metal is easy to bend, just use your hands to curve the numbers slightly to fit your pumpkins Use nails or tacks to pop numbers straight into the pumpkin (I used carpet tacks because I like the rustic look) Your five minute or less pumpkin decorating project is now complete – the hard part is deciding should I put them on the left side or the right side of the stairs – no matter their location, cute, cute, cute! Happy Fall...

Make a V.O.W.

Today is an exciting day for me, one that I have prayed for for a while  Today I debut the new ministry packet for the Verse of the Week: Make a V.O.W. It is a make one, give one ministry that leads you through the how, what, where & why of beginning scripture memory It helps you to create not just a verse board for yourself, but also one to give to encourage others on this wonderful journey. Easy steps walk you through creating a verse board using your own surfaces: A homemade chalkboard, an existing chalk or dry-erase board, a chalk-painted wall, let your imagination go wild with how you can put scripture front and center in your own home! To show one easy and creative way to use the packet, I pulled an old frame from the studio, pulled out the picture and inserted some simple butcher paper. Then following the instructions, applied the vinyl to the glass One, two three, a verse board now sits where an odd sailing ship with dog sailers once roamed  (garage sale find I must confess, bon voyage dog sailers, hello Word of God!) Just one way to use the new make one, give one packet! Comes with instructions, short Biblestudy introduction, verses to learn, 2 vinyls & a gift card for your ‘give one board’. For more information, see the Verse of the week section on my...

The Great Wide Seas are Yours

“O God, the great, wide seas are yours! You carved the oceans’ rugged floors. You set the waters in their place And made all sea life by your grace. You also made humanity To care for earth and sky and sea.” A beautiful morning to a beautiful song! Chalk Paint Sign Party

Several friends gathered at the studio the other night to try their hands at this fun new paint I had been raving about! To inspire a little Fourth of July Fun, I used my Chevron monogram Sign for a little inspiration and the set them free! Out came stencils galore, tape, sandpaper, and of course, lots of yummy Decoart Chalky finish paint! They stenciled and painted and munched on tasty chips and dip, all while putting their own original spin on the design. Sandpaper was flying, friends were cheering & each design was coming together. Laughter was heard all around, as well as lots of encouragement, as they painted into the evening! Circles, chevrons, stripes, polkadots, Oh my! All too soon, the brushes were washed, the paint lids tightened, and the sanding dust settled. As we all cheered each other for each fun finished design, we loved how each personality shone through. Off they all went, inspired and happy, sign tucked under an arm, into the night. They left not just with a sign, but loving the new paint, excited about their new creation & ready to ring in another great Fourth of July! God Bless...
